ORTHOPAEDIC PILLOWS

MJF donated medical pillows in assisting young woman who is experiencing significant medical issues. She undergoes dialysis twice a week, and her current living conditions are inadequate, as she is sleeping on a single bed in the living room of her family’s small house and she suffers from neck and back pain.

DIABETES
WALK

Diabetes continues to be a significant health concern in Seychelles, as highlighted by the recent National Survey on Non-Communicable Diseases. To support efforts in raising awareness and promoting healthier lifestyles, the Lions of Seychelles actively participated in a Walk-a-thon alongside District Governor Lion Moez Manji. This initiative reflects our commitment to tackling this growing challenge and encouraging the community to adopt healthier habits for a better future.

INDUCTION WITH DG OF 411A

District Governor Lion Moez Manji accompanied by First Lady and Cabinet Secretary Lion Wajid Cocker, graced the induction ceremony and meeting of the Melvin Jones Fellows - Lions Club of Seychelles. The event was marked by inspiring speeches, the formal installation of new office bearers, and discussions on strengthening the impact of service initiatives in the Seychelles community.

STATE HOUSE VISIT

Lions International will work with Seychelles to establish a vision hospital among many other areas of cooperation, the district governor, Dr Moez Manji, said on Monday.

Manji with Lions of Seychelles made the announcement after he paid a courtesy call to Vice President Ahmed Afif at State House.

A fun-filled day with educational and sporting activities, healthy eating & health screening was planned as part of the ‘Stop Obesity national campaign’, an initiative spearheaded by President Wavel Ramkalawan. MJF sponsored the star prizes of the event; Treadmill & Cycle.

DG VISITS THE STATE HOUSE

Vice-President Ahmed Afif welcomed the Lions Club International District Governor 411A for Kenya, Ethiopia and Seychelles, Joyce Ndegwa yesterday at his office, State House. Mrs Ndegwa was accompanied by Dr Samson Ndegwa who also served as district governor from 2002-2003.​

DISASTER RELIEF DONATION
December 12, 2023
MJF donated 2 packs of juice and 1 pack of water at Roche Caiman Community Centre on Friday 8th December 2023 to show Solidarity towards our community at the time of need of CCCL Blast and flooding. Also MJF donated 100's of different clothes at the Roche Caiman Community Centre.

The Melvin Jones Fellows supported the Men's health screening held on Men's Health Day. The doctors in the club assisted in the screening of patients, the other members assisted in managing the patients furthermore the club also donated snacks, juices and water for the patients.

EYE TREATMENT

Mr. Bertin was diagnosed with an advanced PDR with retinal detachment in his left eye. MJF Club sponsored the complete eye treatment.

MJF has initiated an Ophthalmology project for training for 2 doctors from the Health Care Agency for a period of 6 months at the Lion's Hospital in Kenya, this discussion was initiated during DG Visit has been almost finalized.

MJF donated 1 laptop, 1 HDMI cable, 20 pen drives, 100 pens, 100 pencils, 100 paper folders & 10 ring files to the Child Health Programme.

Melvin Jones Fellows – Lions Club of Seychelles started its new lionistic year 2021-2022 with a bang. MJF Lions donated 15 Televisions costing approximately SR. 50,000 to the La Rosiere School which directly benefits 420 school children.

Dr Murthy gave a diabetic talk on 28th August. He explained how to manage diabetes during the pandemic. Basic concepts of Diabetic mellitus was mentioned and how to do the treatment for people with diabetes.

CONSTRUCTION OF PARTITIONS AND FIXTURES FOR MINISTRY OF HEALTH DURING PANDEMIC

Amongst the many projects carried out by the MJFs during Lion Pillay’s reign, their most notable one includes the most important project conducted was the sponsorship and construction of partitions and fixtures for the Ministry of Health, to comply with social distancing measures as a result of the recent pandemic.

JUDICIARY OF SEYCHELLES - HEALTH SCREENING
February 28, 2020
Supported the health screening organised by the Judiciary of Seychelles for its staff at the Palais de Justice with the help of the Health Care Agency. The MJF Club provided the MMV to assist the health screening activity. The activities comprised dental screening, ear and eye tests as well as dental exhibition with interactive sessions organised by Oral Health Promotion Committee. A total of over 50 patients were screened by the dental department, 69 patients completed eye examinations and 50 patients had ear check-ups.

ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE - SPONSORSHIP OF ORPHANAGE CHILDREN TO STUDY FRENCH

Donated SCR 51,000 to support 17 children from orphanages to study French for the second successive year. Ms. Emily Motu, Director of Alliance Francaise informed that last year's students' grade had all increased in their school due to participation in courses. The children sponsored are between 4-16 years old from beginners to advanced level and 6 of them will pass the DELF exam this year. The MJF board has decided to support the educational projects that directly impact the less fortunate children.

PUC KIDNEY SCREENING

Lions of Seychelles carried out another Kidney Screening Project for the employees of Public Utilities Corporation (PUC). This was the 19th screening where 111 employees were screened. Many thanks to MJF Dr. Viveg who as usual coordinated and managed carefully the full project with great assistance from Ministry of Health & Health Care Agency.

The Lion’s Club of Seychelles, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health: with the use of our MMV at SEYPEC House New Port, the event included various blood tests, Pressure , Weight, Height, BMR calculation and Urine analysis focused on detection of Sugar & Protein which are primary indicators for Kidney diseases. The CEO of SEYPEC, Mr. Conrad Benoiton was also presented with a shield by MJF Lion Dr. Viveg NCD Screening Coordinator.

MJF Club have the privilege and honour to meet Lion Ravinder Singh Matharu and Lion T.S. Kalsi (Multiple District Council Chairman). Â DG Matharu, who was on a working visit here to oversee the activities of the Lions Clubs of Seychelles, also handed out awards to former members from different branches of the Lions Clubs of Seychelles for their contributions over the Lionistic Years!

AUTISM PROJECT

The centre, located at North East Point, was officially handed over to the chairperson of Autism Seychelles, Ms. Lyn Lavigne, in the presence of the Vice-President, Mr. Vincent Meriton, and sponsors of the project including the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB), Cable and Wireless Seychelles, Rotary Club Coco de Mer, the MJF - Lion’s Club, as well as Shreeji Construction.
The centre was renovated by Shreeji Construction’s Director, Mr. Keshra Bhudia, in collaboration with MJF Seychelles who agreed to provide the association with free labour to carry out the renovation works required of SCR 975,000.

Laxmi Trading in collaboration with MJF Lions donated SCR 50,000 worth of raw materials such as mild steel bars, copper solid round bars, shafting round bars and MS sheets to the Seychelles Institute of Technology (SIT) for the purpose of training learners in welding and machining.

Senior MJF Members flew to Delhi to meet Mrs. Aruna Oswal (International Director of LCI) and Ms. Madhuruchi Lamba (CEO of Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust), accompanied by other Board Members. The meeting was held to finalize details for arrival of Seychelles' first Mobile Medical Van donated by Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust.

KIDNEY SCREENING PROGRAM (PHASE 2)

Lions of Seychelles joined in together at the Les Mamelles Community Centre; We successfully completed the NCD screening of 185 people and managed to diagnose 27 of them requiring further management at the referred clinics to their found health problems. We thank all Doctors, Nurse Coordinators, Nurse's Assistants & our Lions for their commitments.

At Hospital Blood Bank (20 Participants) - Blood donation not only makes the receiver’s life good but also helps the donor to maintain good health. The Benefits Are:
1) Prevents Hemochromatosis; is a health condition that arises due to excess absorption of iron by the body.
2) Anti-cancer Benefits; By donating blood the iron stores in the body are maintained at healthy levels.
3) Maintains Healthy Heart & Liver; Reducing the risk of ailments caused by the iron overload in the body.
4) Weight loss; Regular blood donation reduces the weight of the donors.
5) Stimulates Blood Cell Production; After donating blood, the body works to replenish the blood loss.
